A boy suffers serious head injuries during a ride at Movie World theme park on the Gold Coast

A boy has been rushed to hospital after an accident while on a ride at the Warner Brothers Movie World theme park on the Gold Coast.

The Queensland Ambulance Service took the 12-year-old boy to Gold Coast University Hospital in stable condition after sustaining serious head injuries during the Looney Tunes ride around 1pm.

In a statement, Village Roadshow Theme Parks confirmed the boy suffered a cut to the head and the ride has since been closed.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) senior operations supervisor William Houghton said the boy suffered a “deep laceration to the head” but his injuries were “not life threatening”.

He said the boy was cared for by both “an on-scene registered nurse and an off-duty registered nurse”.

“The first aid was very important, I think that calmed down a lot of people at the scene,” Mr Houghton said.

“They gave good first aid and stemmed the bleeding so when we arrived he was in top care.”

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said his thoughts were with the boy’s family.

“Workplace safety officers and the police will handle the incident and the council will have no further comment,” he said.

Village Roadshow said an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
