Of the many unmade Batman films, the one that would have had the perfect Dark Knight cast was the early 2000s live-action film Batman Beyond.
A batman beyond The movie nearly happened in the early 2000s, and it would have featured the perfect Batman cast. Years before Christian Bale was chosen batman beginsWarner Bros. still did not know where to take the Batman franchise following the batman and robin disaster. Many options were considered, including that of Darren Aronofsky First year adaptation and an Alan Burnett, produced by Paul Dini batman beyond movie that would have been directed by Boaz Yakin.
batman beyond was an animated series released in 1999 as part of the DC animated universe that names like Bruce Timm, Paul Dini, Dwayne McDuffie and Alan Burnett were making. The show served as a sequel to The New Adventures of Batmanwho in turn was a Batman: The Animated Series followed, and told the story of teenage Terry McGinnis uncovering the secrets of a retired Bruce Wayne and becoming the new Batman. Interesting way, batman beyond isn’t something that came out of the comics, and it was one of the things the DCAU created for the DC Universe. Anti-hero Harley Quinn, one of DC’s most famous names, also hailed from the DCAU.
Although the batman beyond The live action film never went through the casting process, the studio was considering Clint Eastwood to play an older Batman. Considering Eastwood’s filmography, looks, and age (about 70 when the movie was in development), there really wasn’t a better choice for an older, retired Bruce Wayne. Moreover, it is interesting to note that scrapping batman beyond the film would also incorporate some Frank Miller elements Return of the Dark Knight, which would suit Clint Eastwood’s Batman even better. While the batman beyond animated series focusing on Bruce Wayne’s reluctant mentoring style, Return of the Dark KnightBruce Wayne’s is a far more relentless and less hopeful individual – a type of character that Clint Eastwood has a wealth of experience playing.
Years after Yakin’s film was scrapped, the idea of an older Bruce Wayne in the mold of batman beyond Where Return of the Dark Knight continues to be present in Hollywood. To create Ben Affleck’s Batman for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, for example, Zack Snyder drew heavily on Frank Miller’s Batman iconography. Oddly enough, even though Affleck was the oldest actor to debut as Batman in a movie, Snyder dreamed of doing a real one. Return of the Dark Knight adaptation with someone like Clint Eastwood starring. The Titans The TV show also opted for an older Bruce Wayne, with Iain Glen portraying the leader of the “Bat-Family”. While a batman beyond movie starring Clint Eastwood never happened, the core of that idea is now being repurposed with Michael Keaton’s Batman acting as Batgirl’s mentor in the bat girl film.
The Dark Knight’s cinematic history is full of abandoned films, but nothing is a greater missed opportunity than not having Clint Eastwood as Batman in batman beyond. Whether the film leans more on Bruce Wayne’s personality from the animated series or on Miller’s Return of the Dark Knight, Eastwood would have worked perfectly in the role. In the end, neither batman beyond nor that of Aronofosky First year happened, and it was Christopher Nolan batman begins which finally relaunched the Batman franchise.
