A disturbing story woven with suspense – A review of the Polish film hell hole

The film hell hole is filled with disturbing elements of terror, whether man-made or supernatural. Its screenwriters, Kowalski and Zaradkiewicz, did an excellent job of providing audiences with a simple yet complex storyline.

The strength of the story lies in its disturbing nature and its shocking twist at the very end. It explores the fine line between the world and the otherworld quite well, and the writers are to be appreciated for their ability to create complex areas so easily.

Several scenes are intriguingly written and managed to create the atmosphere of suspense that the film needed the most. These include the one where Marek talks to the monk Piotr inside the confession box, or the one where the prior Andrzej acts to perform the exorcism

Thus, the very captivating storyline of the film positively adds to the success of the film.

Brilliant direction by Bartosz M. Kowalski

The film’s director, Bartosz M. Kowalski, did a great job creating an atmosphere of fear, danger, and death. From the start of the film, the director tried to capture all aspects of evil in its rawest and most real form.

The way he shot each scene is very impressive and definitely worth appreciating. The staging in scenes like the one with all the bodies of dead amputated women hanging up or the one where Marek discovers a terrible hole inside his room, are striking.

Without a doubt, the film’s direction elevated the disturbing storyline to another level of terror. Its realization makes the film stand out from the rest.

The main actor of the Polish horror film hell hole, Piotr Zurawski, has done an outstanding job portraying his character Marek on screen. The actor dove really deep into the character and brought out all of the complex and creepy nuances that the character contains.

Zurawski is pretty raw and real while showcasing all of the different stages of the character and the layers within. Certain scenes like the one where his character realizes that he is eating human remains are absolutely exhilarating.

Another highlight of the film is the acting performance of Sebastian Stankiewicz. Stankiewicz plays the central role of monk Piotr. It’s safe to say that he does a pretty good job of establishing the complicated, mean character. His screen presence is quite striking.

In scenes like the one where his character shows Marek the book to summon the devil or the one where he betrays Marek, he did an amazing job.

Apart from Zurawski and Stankiewicz, the promising cast of hell hole includes Olaf Lubaszenko, Lech Dyblik, Rafal Iwaniuk and Krzysztof Satala.
