Tomorrow brings the exit of This is where we fall, a new graphic novel by author Chris Miskiewicz and artist Vincent Kings. From Z2 Comics (the folks behind Sturgill Simpson’s Sound and fury and Blondie’s Graphic Novel), the story is accompanied by a three-song soundtrack by Mitski. the Be the cowboy the songwriter once mentioned OST’s ‘The Baddy Man’, and now she’s shared ‘The End’.
âThe Endâ is an alternative instrumental track, dark dreamy synths climbing behind a cacophonous wall of distorted percussion and guitars. Mitski does not lend his song to the track; instead, a male voice speaks as if one of the characters in This is where we fall. âIt’s the kind of job that needs a bastard to do it,â said the husky cowboy (actually Miskiewicz himself), âand luckily the bigger bastard who ever walked on Earth just happens to be here. “
This is where we fall mixes western and sci-fi aesthetics – something Mitski clearly took to heart when creating his soundtrack. Talk with Result about what it was like to work with Mitski on the score, Kings says: “I knew what This is where we fall oughta look like, but what Mitski did for what he sounds like that has been total magic for me. I can’t read the book without having its traces in my head now. “
“Make the original score for This is where we fall was a real collaboration. Mitski completely got the vibe we were looking for and created some stellar compositions that matched the ‘country’ tone of the world we created perfectly. I personally performed several lines of dialogue from the script for two tracks, while Mitski created her rendition of “The Baddy Man” from a scene where she is played in the book. I can’t explain how fun it was to not only write and see this story as it developed, but also to hear it. I guess the best thing to do after this experience would be to set it up with actors.
Waiting to see if the live action This is where we fall comes to fruition, you can check out some exclusive pages of the upcoming release while listening to Mitski’s “The End” on SoundCloud. The three-song full vinyl TPB and OST will both be released on May 5. Pick them up from the Z2 website.
