Stellaris is getting a VR roguelite that lets you explore the galaxy face-to-face

Fantasies of being a space captain often seem to revolve around the idea of sitting in a nice, comfy chair on the deck of a spaceship that looks suspiciously like a living room. The developers at Fast Travel Games aren’t the first to realize that this eminently corny dream fits VR just fine, but they’re making it happen for the Stellaris universe, with the new roguelite game Ghost Signal. Strap on your space helmet and watch the trailer below.

Ghost Signal: A Stelarris Game is coming to Meta Quest 2 in 2023.

Fast Travel seems to be going for a No Man’s Sky vibe, if that was set entirely in space in VR with no planetary action. You will be able to cruise around in your star TV license app van in search of the elusive ghost signal, chat with aliens, dodge huge floating beasts and fight other ships. There will also be a lot of research to be conducted and scanned for extraterrestrial things, because this is science fiction. They love scanning things in science fiction. I note that the developers say that there are the two atomic missiles and fellow dragons, so I’ll just pretend it’s Stargate.

Ghost Signal is definitely a Stellaris joint. You can tell because there are aliens that look like snails and some kind of cabbage-turtle, which appear on your screen at the special angle of Stellaris that all aliens insist on standing at all times. I’ve always dreamed of being a starship captain, so games like Star Trek: Bridge Crew and this one are very much my interstellar avenue. Virtual reality makes me feel a little uneasy, but I can probably manage to explore at least a bit of the galaxy before awkwardly reaching for a bag.

Proper Stellaris just received a free update earlier this week to coincide with the release of its new DLC, the Toxoid Species Pack. The 3.5 Fornax update introduces a new beginner difficulty setting to the space strategy game, along with adjustments. Paradox hopes to challenge players who have been with Stellaris for a while. The developers also rebalanced the relics and tweaked the AI to make it competitive yet believable in the Stellaris universe.

Ghost Signal: A Stellaris Game will be released in early 2023 for Meta Quest 2. There is more information about the game on its official website here.
